Antique 1900s Shirtwaist Embroidered Blouse Sz M

Antique 1900s shirtwaist embroidered blouse. This original blouse is from the Victorian era, during a time that women's fashions were changing. With the advent of the bicycle, women were becoming liberated. For the first time, women were able to leave the house without causing social suicide. The “rational dress” movement that had blossomed during the first wave of feminism of the 1890s found renewed traction thanks to the bicycle; its advocates campaigned for less-restrictive garments, moving to abolish the hated tight-laced corset and normalize simpler attire for athletic use.
This blouse is a fine example of the Victorian bicycle outfits that women used to wear. It features several gorgeous pin-tucks along the neck and shoulders as well as a gathered center which emphasizes the waist. Paired with a full length skirt and key necklace - you have a complete Victorian bicycling ensemble (see historical photo below).
