1920s Peach Silk Charmeuse Piano Shawl Duster
This product is unavailable
Chinese export silk shawls were favorite evening accessories of the 1920s flapper. Thoughtfully sewn into a duster jacket, this beauty would be stunning over an evening dress; or even casually over denim or black trousers.
Made from a stunning peach colored charmeuse silk, the shawl is exquisitely hand embroidered with large bouquets of roses and flowers all over the shawl. The high relief satin-stitch embroidery is simply stunning. There is a 12"-border of hand-knotted silk fringe that is also in beautiful condition.
Fine hand embroidery was an art form in China before Marco Polo arrived there in the 13th century. Chinese export goods were still popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As interest waned after the 1920s, so did the quality of hand work. Modern copies produced in China today are of inferior quality.
An original 1920s piano shawl has been thoughtfully sewn into a unique and wearable kimono style duster. Roses and flowers are intricately embroidered in silk thread, while fringe adorns the sleeves, collar and hems.
